History
Francis Charles Adlam founded Alifabs on the 20th of September 1957. The company started its trading life supplying aluminium building products and lightweight structures to the construction industry.
Many of Alifabs' early products were patented and soon gained industry recognition and accreditation as being best in breed. Today the Alifabs coping system is still the only product on the market to have gained the BBS (British Board of Agrément) certification as testament to its superior quality.
Alifabs' reputation and expertise in the construction industry led to the company being selected to undertake a number of large international contracts. The success of these projects soon resulted in Alifabs designing and constructing the Visual Control Room for Sharjah International Airport, United Arab Emirates. This installation was to be the first of some 45 airport control rooms to date in 20 different countries which has established Alifabs' reputation as the most experienced company worldwide. Alifabs was presented with the Queens Award for Export in 1994.
With Alifabs' reputation and experience in design and development the company has also been involved in many specially commissioned structures. These designs range from domes, canopies and roof vaults to power station structures and sculptures combining a broad range of materials. The development of these projects has established an experienced in-house design office with extensive Computer Aided Design and 3D modelling facilities.
The largest growth area of business in recent years has been in the design, manufacture and installation of Cellular support structures for the telecommunications industry. Alifabs was appointed onto the British Telecommunications Approved Supplier list and won major ongoing contracts to supply and install Cellular structures all over the United Kingdom. This appointment was followed by other major cellular clients and Alifabs is now the UK's largest supplier and installer of Cellular structures.
In association with its network infrastructure business, Alifabs has also developed one of the widest cabinet and outdoor enclosures portfolio ranges available from one source, ranging from low end and temporary installations to specialist and high end products. Custom requirements are fulfilled through the expert design and test team. In addition to the enclosures portfolio, Alifabs also provides thermal management and diagnostic solutions, which enable the provision of fully factory fitted out thermally managed cabinets capable of operating in harsh environments and extreme temperatures. These enclosures are used in multiple industries including transportation, energy and telecommunications.
