Architectural Aluminium Coping - Performance

Wind resistance
Copings have been tested for wind speeds of up to 190km/h. Extracts from test results are shown in the graph to the right. It is essential that copings are properly fixed to enable them to meet design performance.

Resistance to chemicals
Not affected by normal industrial atmospheres. Consult Alifabs before using in conditions of extreme atmospheric pollution or in coastal areas.

Thermal movement
Coefficient of linear thermal expansion is 23 x 106 per deg C. A gap of 2 to 3mm left between coping sections will accommodate normal thermal movement.

Lightning protection
Lightning conductor linkages can be supplied to provide electrical continuity between lengths of coping.

Compatibility
Fixing straps can have a coat of zinc chromate primer to the underside, if necessary, to protect from direct contact with materials which might cause electrolytic action.

Durability
Aluminium is inherently resistant to corrosion due to the formation of a natural oxide film on the surface. There are successful installations of the coping over 20 years old. Agrément Cer1ificate no 03/4037 assesses that the aluminium components will perform effectively for 30 years in rural or suburban surroundings, or 20 years in severe industrial surroundings (excluding the immediate vicinity and downwind of works which produce particularly corrosive chemicals). It may be necessary to replace the neoprene seals during this time.
